Are you ready to join our big WRR Family & Adopt a horse of your own?

Our goal here at Whiskey Ridge is to match our horses with the right home for them. Horses, donkeys and mules are not like any other pet and it's important to us that we place them in homes that allow for lifelong bonds and sure futures.

We try to get to know you as best as possible through our application process so we can better pair you with a suitable equine... We match based on the level of experience, temperament and level of training.

But of course, the equine choose their people- and sometimes love at first sight happens when you come to visit! Some matches are just meant to be, as unexpected and unplanned as they might come about.

Sending one of our critters home is a huge moment and not one that can be rushed. Please be patient with us.
We have their best interest at heart, as well as your own!

We know each of our equine like the back of our hand and value everyone involved in this process.

A Few Things To Know:

  • Applications are a requirement for adoption through us. Don't overthink it! It's just our way of getting to know you and your set up for housing and caring for a WRR Equine. It takes 5 minutes or less to fill out and can even be done easily from your phone. Answer honestly and don't be intimidated by the process! We are excited to meet you and introduce you to your potential forever horse. CLICK HERE to pull up our adoption application.
  • We do offer transport for an additional fee, if unable to arrange for your own- but we encourage you to please do your best to find transport yourself!
  • Adoption Contracts must be filled out on adoption day and adoption fees do apply.
  • Adoption fees vary based on age, level of training, limitations, etc. (Typically, rideables range from $650-$900... donkeys, minis, projects and pasture companions range anywhere from $150-$500.)
  • If you are interested in a project horse and happen to be a knowledgeable trainer with references, we have a program just for you! Ask us about our training program!
  • As stated in our Adoption Contract (Link can be found at the bottom of the page to view it!), our adoption fee is non-refundable. However, we understand sometimes things don't click when you get your equine home! We will work with you on finding a match and do offer a swap with another WRR equine better suited to you. We stand behind our equines 100%.
  • You must have a stall or pasture available with a boarding facility OR suitable fencing and set up at your own home (or a family member/friend). Barbed wire fencing is not ideal, but we understand we're in the middle of cattle country and you will not be denied adoption based on that. It must be tight and properly maintained, for the safety of the equine.
  • Our requirements are simple: Must have lots of love to give, financial support to care for your equine, suitable enclosure and shelter, plenty of feed and fresh water and the pursuit of equine knowledge- whether you're seeking to learn as a beginner or have owned horses for years.
  • We invite the potential adopter to come meet your equine prior to bringing them home. We are appointment only, so message us to set up a time following your completion and approval of the application.
  • If there is serious interest in an equine and it is a good fit for everyone, we will offer a first right of refusal. This simply removes the pressure of rushing decisions on the spot and you will have the freedom to decide what is best for you.
  • We do have full rights to conduct a visit to where your equine will be housed and cared for.
  • WRR equines can NOT be relocated without us being made aware of the move. Just send us a message to let us know of the change!
  • Our goal is to provide our adopters with all the resources they need to be successful with their new partner. We LOVE what we do and take joy in keeping up with our WRR Family. Please feel free to ask many questions and reach out at any time! We may not respond immediately, but our equine's best interest is at heart and we will be glad to answer your questions and assist you.

MOST IMPORTANTLY:

*Adopted WRR Equines CANNOT BE RESOLD For Any Reason*

This is to ensure their safety and to secure their futures. We often rescue them from awful situations, in the worst of health and conditions. Our promise to them is that they will never end up back in the wrong hands, tossed from place to place, back in the thick of the slaughter pipeline, running through auctions, or missing meals ever again. We are their second chance in life and we refuse to let them go through unnecessary pain ever again.

We are not here to judge. We get it! Life happens. If you think you have the craziest story for why you can't keep your horse, don't worry- we've probably heard crazier! If you're going through big changes, financial hardships, divorce, health related issues, or otherwise and cannot keep your WRR equine for whatever reason it may be, they are ALWAYS welcome back here and cannot be resold, rehomed or given away, per our legally binding contract.
If you do not have a trailer available to you and cannot arrange for transport, message us immediately and we will transport ourselves. Be transparent, be honest, do right by your equine.
